Ofcom explains that communications providers are required by law to ensure their offerings are secure, reliable and resilient. They must also report any significant security incidents to Ofcom.

To assist companies in understanding what is expected of them, Ofcom publishes guidance setting out what it will take into account when deciding if a company has complied with its obligations.

Ofcom’s guidance was originally published in 2011, when the security obligations first came into force, and was last revised in 2014.

The consultation closes on 7 September 2017. To access the consultation, click here.
