Insights Ofcom consults on proposals to make use of 25 MHz of spectrum in 700 MHz band for mobile data.

In November 2014 Ofcom announced that the 700 MHz band, which is currently used for digital terrestrial TV and wireless microphone applications, would be repurposed for mobile data as soon as practicably possible.

In this consultation, Ofcom is also setting out proposals that would enable it to make the 700 MHz band nationally available for mobile data up to 18 months earlier than would otherwise have been the case, by a target date of no later than the second quarter of 2020.

Ofcom has also published a statement on an updated Code of Practice for managing transitional issues during the preparation for the clearance of the 700MHz spectrum band.

The closing date for responses to the consultation is 20 May 2016.  To access the consultation documentation, click here.
