Insights PhonepayPlus publishes refreshed Guidance for industry.

In February, PhonepayPlus launched a public consultation on five pieces of Guidance for the premium rate services industry that had been amended or developed afresh.  It has now published three out of the five pieces of Guidance and a Statement following consultation.

PhonepayPlus says that the process of guidance development is ongoing and forms part of wider work, which has considered each piece of Guidance and whether it required amendment.  These three pieces have been updated in light of stakeholder feedback.  Changes include modifying text to improve accessibility and impact and clarifying the purpose and content of Guidance itself.

The Statement following consultation sets out the background to the further amendments made to the regulator’s proposals and gives insight into the ongoing work undertaken prior to the publication of the final two pieces of Guidance. The three pieces of Guidance published so far are:

  • Advice services;
  • Enabling consumer spend control; and
  • Digital marketing and promotion.

Revisions have been made to the remaining two pieces of Guidance, Subscription services and Method of exiting a service, following feedback received and research undertaken.  PhonepayPlus intends to publish these two pieces of Guidance later in the summer. These two pieces of Guidance will be published alongside proposals to streamline its regulatory framework to promote competition and innovation, while ensuring PhonepayPlus has the appropriate tools in place to protect consumers.  To access the Statement and revised pieces of Guidance, click here.
