Media law firm Wiggin is delighted to sponsor the new Georgina Henry Women in Journalism Award for Innovation. Georgina Henry was the former deputy editor of The Guardian and one of the founders of Women in Journalism, the networking and training outfit which celebrated its 21st birthday last December. She died in February 2014 aged 53. The new award will recognise a woman with a flair for storytelling and evidence of innovation, and will support her towards funding a project or pay for living expenses during work experience at two or more major national news organisations to be arranged by the organisers. Wiggin Partner Caroline Kean is one of the award judges. She commented: “We are proud to do something that both honours Georgina’s memory and offers opportunities to aspiring journalists – particularly at a time when changes in the industry and threats to press freedom mean that good journalists are more essential than ever.” The winner will be announced at the Press Awards for 2014 ceremony in the Grosvenor Square Hotel tonight.
