Insights Ofcom publishes research on mitigating the risk of illegal content online

Ofcom says that this qualitative research gives a snapshot of the ways in which some platforms are seeking to mitigate the risks associated with user-to-user interactions on platforms.

One report focuses on how services are seeking to mitigate the risk of user generated content fraud, while the other report considers how services are approaching mitigating a wider range of illegal harms.

Ofcom says that it carried out this research to help build its evidence base as it prepares to implement the new online safety laws. Ofcom stresses, however, that the findings should not be considered a reflection of any final policy position that the regulator may adopt when it takes up its role as the online safety regulator.
