Insights Ofcom publishes an initial consultation on its approach to modelling the costs of building a fibre network.

From 2021, Ofcom will regulate wholesale fixed telecoms markets for residential and business services together. In December, it says it intends to consult on detailed proposals for this single, holistic market review, covering the period to 2026.

In this consultation, which closes on 2 August 2019, Ofcom sets out initial proposals on its modelling approach to estimate the costs of building an efficient fibre network.

Ofcom is not consulting on what it thinks these costs are at this stage – only the proposed design of its model. The closing date for responses is 2 August 2019. To access the consultation, click here.
