HomeInsightsEuropean Commission launches public consultation on the review and prolongation of the Roaming Regulation (531/2012/EU)

The Roaming Regulation established the “Roam-Like-At-Home” principle that mandated the end of retail roaming charges within the EEA as from 15 June 2017, while ensuring sustainability of the provision of roaming services. The Roaming Regulation is due to expire on 30 June 2022. The consultation therefore aims at gathering information for the Impact Assessment of a Commission legislative proposal concerning the review of the Roaming Regulation.

The Commission published an inception impact assessment on 9 April 2020, informing citizens and stakeholders about the Commission’s plans to review the Roaming Regulation. Views are sought from mobile operators and their associations, citizens, consumer associations, national regulators, government authorities, civil society organisations, businesses and experts.

The consultation is open until 11 September 2020. To access the consultation, click here.
