The Council has agreed that the new Act will enhance cyber resilience by setting up a voluntary EU-wide certification framework for information and communication technology products, services and processes. Certificates issued will be valid in all EU countries. Features covered would include resilience to accidental or malicious data loss or alteration.
The new Act will also make the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA) a permanent agency for cyber security. ENISA will be given new tasks in supporting Member States, EU institutions and other stakeholders on cyber issues.
The Council can now begin negotiations with the European Parliament to agree a final text. For further information, click here.
