Media, Technology and IP law firm Wiggin has advised leading digital sports rights group Perform on its 17-year partnership with FIBA, the governing body for basketball.

As part of the partnership, Perform will become FIBA’s worldwide partner and will responsible for the distribution and sales of all media-related rights to high-profile basketball tournaments, including the FIBA Basketball World and Continental Cups.  The partnership will see the launch of FIBA Media, which is committed to ensuring the widest exposure possible for international basketball and the promotion of live tournaments through Perform’s consumer portals.  The deal, which represents a strengthening of the existing partnership between Perform and FIBA, will cover over 5,000 live games between 2017 and 2033, including the start of qualifying for the 2019 Basketball World Cup in China.

Wiggin Partner Ross Sylvester led the team who advised Perform on this deal.  Ross has advised on other recent high-profile deals in the sports rights sector, including Perform’s partnership with the WTA, the organiser of the top women’s tennis tour, and Racecourse Media Group’s long-term deal with SIS.
