Matthew advises clients across the media, tech and sports industries on contentious commercial issues, including questions of contractual interpretation and related issues, boardroom fallouts, warranty, shareholder and joint venture disputes, responses to the misuse of confidential information and commercial fraud. Matthew has particular experience of obtaining urgent injunctive relief and navigating complex jurisdictional issues. His practice encompasses cross-border litigation and international arbitration as well as other less formal dispute resolution mechanisms. An increasing part of Matthew’s practice is dispute avoidance: stress testing potentially contentious situations and scenarios and helping clients gain early leverage in negotiation.
Matthew has in-house experience, having spent time on secondment with a major brand management and retail group.
Matthew holds qualifications in English law, French law, and European law from the Universities of Oxford, Paris and Edinburgh and is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb). He regularly writes and speaks on topics and trends in commercial law.
