LONDON – Media, technology and intellectual property law firm Wiggin LLP has advised the shareholders of Gamer Network on its sale to ReedPOP, the world’s largest producer of games and pop culture live events. Effective immediately, the deal sees Gamer Network’s portfolio of leading events, websites and video channels moving to ReedPOP, a boutique group within Reed Exhibitions (part of the RELX Group).

Founded in 1999, Gamer Network is the creator of a range of video games websites including Eurogamer.net, the world’s leading independent video games site. The company also publishes market-leading content such as GamesIndustry.biz, has successful video channels including Outside Xbox and Digital Foundry and hosts the UK’s biggest games event, EGX.

Ciaran Hickey, Wiggin’s corporate partner who led the deal said: “Gamer Network has developed some of the leading online and live event brands in the gaming space. It was a pleasure to work with Rupert and the rest of the management team to deliver a successful transaction”.

Gamer Network founder, Rupert Loman said “We are really pleased to be joining ReedPOP. After more than 18 years as an independent it was vital for us that we got the right deal for ourselves and for our team, and getting good advice was crucial in that. Ciaran and his team were a great fit for us, giving us pragmatic and valuable advice throughout the process and making sure closing was a success.”

As the latest in a series of deals recently concluded in this space, Wiggin’s corporate team has maintained its strong reputation as a trusted advisor for strategic digital media and technology transactions. The firm has also recently strengthened its offering to the computer games industry with the addition of Paul Gardner as a partner.
