HomeInsightsOfcom publishes review and conclusions on the change of control of Channel 5’s licence

Ofcom has set out its conclusions having reviewed the likely effects of the change of control of the Channel 5 licence, following a merger between CBS Corporation and Viacom Inc in the USA.

When control of the Channel 5 licence changes, Ofcom is required by the Communications Act 2003 to review the likely effects of the change. Ofcom says it has considered the potential impact on Channel 5’s news and current affairs output, its original productions, and on programmes it produces outside London.

Following Ofcom’s review, the regulator has concluded that the change of control would not have a prejudicial effect on Channel 5’s delivery in these areas, and so no change to its licence is warranted. For further details, click here.
