The Commission is proposing extending the provisional application of the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement (TCA) and the Agreement on security procedures for exchanging and protecting classified information until 30 April 2021. Currently, the TCA applies provisionally until 28 February 2021 at the latest.

The Commission’s proposed extension is technical, it says, to allow the time needed for the completion of the legal-linguistic revision of the agreements in all 24 languages for scrutiny by the European Parliament and the Council.

In order to change the end date of the provisional application, a decision must be taken jointly in the EU-UK Partnership Council, the governance body established by the TCA. To access the proposal, click here.
