On 8 December 2023, the European Parliament’s Committee on Culture and Education (CULT) published their report on the implementation of the Creative Europe Programme 2021-2027, the EU fund providing support to the cultural and creative sectors. The report contains a short paragraph on video games. Parliament welcomes the introduction of dedicated action to support the development of video games and immersive content, whilst recognising that the current budget may not be sufficient and calling for additional funding to support the growth of the European videogame ecosystem and the development and retention of European talent. Further, as advocated by the games industry, Parliament recommends that the European Commission takes into account the video games sector’s specific characteristics and needs when designing relevant calls for funding proposals, with particular attention to the participation of women and skills development.
