PRS for Music Chief Executive Robert Ashcroft has welcomed the news that a final text of the Proposed Copyright Directive has been agreed (see item above).

Mr Ashcroft said that after five years of hard work, “the news that we have a final text is a welcome relief for all involved”. The Directive has, he said, “generated an unprecedented level of debate and a wave of misinformation from the open internet lobby”.

Mr Ashcroft said that PRS for Music’s mission has always been to achieve a “fair and functioning digital market” and, as a result, fair reward for creators. He concluded: “Subject to final scrutiny of the text and the forthcoming vote in Parliament it looks today as though we are going to achieve our aim”. To read PRS for Music’s statement, click here.
