The CMA has today announced that it has obtained undertakings from Progress Play and Jumpman Gaming in respect of the removal of what the CMA have deemed unfair restrictions placed on the ability of customers to withdraw money from their gambling accounts. All operators are now required to adhere to the standards set out by the CMA and the Gambling Commission has confirmed that it is expecting operators to check their arrangements to ensure compliance. There is no doubt that the Commission will be examining compliance in this area carefully on the back of the CMA’s guidance.

Coming on the back of the CMA’s conclusions in respect of gambling promotions issued in February 2018, this latest development does not come as a surprise. One area which remains sensitive is the difficulty faced by operators in acceding to requests to return funds to players where there are suspicions of money laundering or fraud. The CMA have helpfully acknowledged that an operator’s obligations in such circumstances are not overridden by its latest findings
