HomeInsightsMedia Act 2025: Ofcom publishes update

Ofcom has provided an update on its implementation of the Media Act 2025, together with a roadmap of what we can expect in the year ahead.

In terms of the work that has been achieved so far, much of what Ofcom identifies has been discussed by us previously. For example, Ofcom points to the recent designation of video-on-demand (VoD) services that will fall under its regulatory scope (discussed here), its consultation on prominence and accessibility for connected TV platforms (discussed here), and the many changes to the rules governing public service broadcasters (PSBs) (as we explain, for example, here).

Looking further ahead, Ofcom sets out what steps we can expect this year, including:

  • A consultation on a new Accessibility Code for ‘Tier 1’ VoD services;

  • A review of audience protection measures (such as age ratings and content warnings) provided by VoD services;

  • A final code of practice for providers within the scope of Ofcom’s PSB prominence rules;

  • A consultation on dispute resolution guidelines applying to the prominence regime;

  • Final recommendations on which platforms should be designated under the new regulations for voice-activated platforms, and a consultation on a new Code of Practice for how to comply with their duties; and

  • A consultation on a Code of Practice for Designated Radio Selection Services
