In response to the House of Lords report the Chair of ISPA, Andrew Glover, said that it was “encouraging” that the report confirmed ISPA’s “longstanding view” that “the internet is not an unregulated ‘wild west’”, and is subject to the same laws that apply offline, in addition to a range of standards and regulatory bodies.

Mr Glover also said that the report was a “helpful contribution to the ongoing debate around regulation in the digital age, including the need for online platforms to improve how they manage and remove content and to improve co-ordination across Government, ahead of the publication of the Government’s Online Harms White Paper”.

Mr Glover concluded by saying that ISPA supports the Committee’s position “that reform in this area must be undertaken with due care to mitigate unintended consequences”. To read ISPA’s response in full, click here.
