Insights European Commission publishes Roadmap in relation to a review of the Vertical Block Exemption Regulation

The European Commission has published an Evaluation and Fitness Check Roadmap on the Vertical Block Exemption Regulation (330/2010/EU).

The purpose of the evaluation is to gather evidence on the functioning of the Regulation, which will expire on 31 May 2022, to allow the Commission to determine whether it should let the Regulation lapse, prolong its duration or revise it in order to take proper account of new market developments since its adoption in 2010, notably the increased importance of online sales and the emergence of new market players such as online platforms. The Commission will look at the Regulation’s effectiveness, efficiency, relevance, coherence and EU added value.

The Commission is currently inviting feedback until 6 December 2018. It will also be launching a consultation in the first quarter of 2019 to collect in-depth and high quality information relating to the key competition issues arising in vertical relationships from businesses, consumers and EU competition law enforcers.
