Media, technology and IP law firm Wiggin has advised independent production company Eleven Film on its majority sale to Sony Pictures Television. The sale will allow Eleven’s growth to accelerate even further as it gains increased access to US commissioners as well as to Sony’s worldwide distribution business.

Founded in 2006 by Jamie Campbell and Joel Wilson, Eleven is one of the UK’s fastest growing drama production companies and is the creator and producer of the global hit Sex Education. Other Eleven commissions include Red Rose, a BBC Three horror which has been picked up by Netflix in the U.S. It is also making White Stork, a political thriller starring Tom Hiddleston.

Michael Brader led the team that advised the shareholders of Eleven Film (including Channel 4), assisted by Benedict Headicar and Tom Watkins.

The sale brings an end to the Channel 4 Growth Fund’s involvement in Eleven, which became the first drama production company to benefit from the fund. Wiggin has unique experience of the Fund, having advised seven companies on taking investment, as well as True North and Whisper Films on their recent exits (to Sky and Sony respectively).

Wiggin’s corporate practice is widely recognised as the leading UK legal advisor in the independent TV M&A and investment transactions market. Brader has advised on over 60 deals in the sector, most recently advising on the sales of Naked Entertainment to Fremantle, Sister Pictures to Freelands, Fulwell73 on its part sale to Valance Media and Eleventh Hour Films on its part sale to Sony Pictures Television, as well as a number of companies on investment deals, including Lighthouse Film & Television and Longboat Pictures, both with Sky, Raindog Films with Calculus Capital, 110% Content with Freelands and South Shore Productions with ITV.
