We’re delighted to have advised peer-to-peer sports betting exchange Matchbook on its acquisition of rival exchange, Betdaq.

The acquisition brings together two established betting exchange brands and strengthens Matchbook’s position as growing interest in prediction markets drives renewed demand for peer-to-peer betting models worldwide.

The Wiggin team was led by Ben Whitelock (Corporate) and Steve Ketteley (Betting & Gaming) and primarily supported by David Nicholls, Patrick Rennie, Siobhan Lewis and Michael Browne.

Tim Endersby, General Counsel at Matchbook, commented: “Wiggin were a fantastic partner throughout this transaction. Their deep understanding of our sector, clear commercial advice and joined-up corporate and regulatory support were invaluable in helping us navigate the complexities of the deal and get it over the line.”

Ben Whitelock commented: “This is an exciting and strategically important acquisition for Matchbook as it builds its position in a fast-evolving global market. It was a pleasure to work so closely with Tim Endersby, Ronan McDonagh and Antony Spratt and the wider Matchbook team, bringing together our corporate and specialist betting and gaming expertise to help deliver the deal.”

Wiggin’s Corporate practice has been involved in many of the most significant private M&A deals in the online gambling sector in recent years. The firm’s award-winning Betting & Gaming team advises leading sector stakeholders on commercial and regulatory matters in both UK and internationally.
