The Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee has announced the subjects it will examine in the latest round of its State of Play Inquiry.
As we previously commented upon here, the Committee’s State of Play inquiries offer an opportunity for subjects that might otherwise escape parliamentary scrutiny to gain greater prominence, while allowing the Committee and those who submit evidence to help inform and influence Government policy. Recent sessions have examined, for example, the challenges faced by the live comedy sector (discussed here) as well as by members of the creative industries touring the EU.
Earlier this year, the Committee invited pitches and suggestions for subjects to investigate from across the worlds of culture, media and sport, and it has settled on the following:
- The structure of the football academy system;
- The role and funding of arts centres;
- The protection of journalists in conflict zones;
- Inclusion in football management;
- The selection of the UK’s Eurovision entry.
Commenting on the announcement, the Committee’s Chair, Dame Caroline Dinenage, said, “our next set of sessions cover a real mix of topics, from defending press freedoms and promoting fairness in football to ensuring the health of our country’s culture and music. Our inquiry has a successful track record when it comes to shifting the dial. We look forward to shining a light on these issues and to continuing to make a difference to the things that people care about”.
