HomeInsightsIntellectual Property Office publishes Annual IP Crime and Enforcement Report: 2020 to 2021

The report highlights current and emerging threats surrounding counterfeiting and piracy, including those conducted online. Recent reports from the OECD indicate that trade in fake goods continues to increase from an already high level of 3.3% of world trade in 2016.

In March 2021, the 10th wave of the Online Copyright Infringement Tracker reported a 23% infringement rate. Although this figure is 2% lower than the previous year, the IPO says that it still represents a threat to the creative industries and an unacceptable level of IP “crime ambivalence” on the part of UK consumers.

The report contains statistical data and enforcement activities from UK law enforcement agencies including Police, Trading Standards and Customs, along with industry bodies. The report also includes a separate supplement with a sample of IP related case studies from Trading Standards. To access the full Report, click here.
