HomeInsightsInformation Commissioner’s Office and National Privacy Commission, Philippines, sign Memorandum of Understanding

UK Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham and her counterpart in the Philippines, Commissioner and Chairman Raymund Enriquez Liboro (NPC), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), setting out their commitment to fostering closer collaboration and cooperation in data protection in the two jurisdictions.

The ICO says that recognising the nature of the modern global economy, the increasing complexity of information technologies, and the resulting need for increased cross-border enforcement cooperation, the MOU reaffirms the intent of the participants to deepen their existing relations and to assist each other in enforcing data protection legislation.

The MOU will not involve the sharing of personal data, and is in line with the ICO’s legal responsibilities. The ICO says that it fits firmly with UK commitments to protect the personal data of its citizens, while enabling the opportunities of digital innovation.
