HomeInsightsGovernment publishes new guidance note on.eu domain names and what owners need to do before the end of the transition period

Owners and potential owners of .eu domain names need to check their eligibility for registration or renewal before 1 January 2021. For example, organisations established in the UK and not in the EU/EEA will no longer be eligible, but EU/EEA citizens will be eligible.

Those who are no longer eligible to register or renew a .eu should consider transferring to another top-level domain, such as .com, .co.uk, .net or .org. Such organisations should consider developing a migration plan for services and functions that the .eu domain, website or associated email address was linked to or supported. Any trade mark rights should also be considered. To access the guidance note, click here.
