Media, Technology and IP law firm Wiggin is delighted to announce that it is to sponsor the second annual Women in Journalism Georgina Henry Award for Innovation.

The award recognises a woman with a flair for storytelling and evidence of innovation, and will support her towards funding a project or pay for living expenses during work experience at two or more major national news organisations to be arranged by the organisers. It was set up to honour Georgina Henry, who was a founding member of Women in Journalism as well as former deputy editor of the Guardian and head of Guardian.co.uk before her tragic death in February 2014.

Wiggin Partner Caroline Kean commented: “We have been with WIJ from its beginnings 22 years ago. We are proud to do something that both honours Georgina’s memory and offers opportunities to aspiring journalists – particularly at a time when changes in the industry and threats to press freedom mean that good journalists are more essential than ever.

“Innovation is fundamental to our industry and is at the core of the work Wiggin does. As a firm, we have been recognised for our innovative approach and it feels only right for us to sponsor this award. I wish all the candidates all the best.”

The award will be presented to the winner at the prestigious National Press Awards, which will be held on March 22 at a black tie dinner at The Hilton Hotel Park Lane.
