Insights Consultation on the tax treatment of remote gambling

It was announced in the Autumn Statement 2023 that the UK government will shortly publish a consultation on proposals to introduce a single duty on remote gambling (defined as gambling offered over the internet, telephone, TV and radio), to replace the current three tax structure (remote gaming duty, general betting duty and pool betting duty). As with any such reforms, it will be important that the industry is actively engaged in this process in order to ensure that stakeholder views feed into the design of any new design and to safeguard against any unintended consequences.

This consultation looks set to run alongside the ongoing consultation on the structure, distribution and governance of a statutory levy on gambling operators. Read more about the statutory levy consultation in our previous blog post here.
