During the 47th BEREC ordinary meeting (10 June 2021), the BEREC Board of Regulators approved the draft BEREC Report on COVID-19 crisis – lessons learned regarding communications networks and services for a resilient society for public consultation.

BEREC says that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the European electronic communications markets. As lockdown measures were introduced across the EU from spring 2020, the demand for electronic communications services and the requested capacity of electronic communications networks spiked significantly. The crisis has clearly demonstrated that connectivity is essential for all sectors of society.

To this effect, BEREC has prepared a draft report to record the measures that National Regulatory Authorities implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic and to assess the impact of the crisis on the sector. The report collects case studies and draws regulatory lessons to ensure that European electronic communication networks are future-proof.

BEREC is now seeking views on the report by 26 July 2021. To access the draft report and consultation, click here.
