David is a technology specialist and heads our Data Privacy, Information Law and Cyber Security team.

“I specialise in working with technology, media, and IP-focused businesses and advise some of the world’s leading companies in these sectors. I have significant experience of working with US and European companies on international business expansion and cross-border, multi-jurisdictional transactions and projects. I am also a trusted advisor to fast-growth digital media, technology and internet businesses.

I enjoy working with pioneers and innovators. My work has included leading the project to introduce European competition law into the UK telecoms sector, which paved the way for the fully liberalised and competitive market we have today, acting as outside counsel to one of the world’s first smartphone manufacturers on its roll-out in Europe, and serving as Tesla’s outside counsel in its formative years, during which I led the negotiations on its ground-breaking deal with Lotus for the joint development and manufacture of Tesla’s first electric vehicle, the multi award-winning Roadster.

I also have a focus on complex transactions and regulatory matters involving data and cybersecurity, areas which have become business-critical for organisations in the technology and digital sectors, as well as many others. I head our full-service data practice, which provides market-leading support to innovators and global businesses involved in media and entertainment, telecoms, computer games, film and TV, betting and gaming, publishing, web services and software, technology, including AI and IoT, and retail.”

David is recommended by Legal 500 for technology, fintech and data protection matters and recognised by Legal Who’s Who as a Global Leader in Data – Information Technology 2020, Data – Telecoms & Media 2020 and Data – Data Security 2020. He is a mentor on a number of London’s leading accelerator programs, the founder of a network for CEOs and company founders, and an entrepreneur himself, having co-founded the social fitness technology company, Racefully.
