Charles Moore, Wiggin partner, was invited by the British Film Commission (BFC) to take part in two seminars which took place in the USA last week in connection with the UK’s new High-End Television tax relief. The BFC is the UK’s national agency responsible for maximising and supporting the production of international feature film and television in the UK.

Charles played a key role in getting the new TV tax relief introduced, and at the seminars on 12 April in LA and 15 April in New York, he was part of an expert panel which gave US producers, studio executives and other TV industry figures an overview of the new tax credit and various UK production-related matters.

Hosted by the BFC’s Chief Executive Adrian Wootton, the events promoted the UK production industry to the US TV community with the intention of attracting new productions to the UK to take advantage of the new incentive.

At the East and West Coast seminars, Charles focused on practical implications for US production companies setting up a TV production in the UK, including production structures, guild agreements, fringe payments, working conditions and local tax issues that would affect any US-sourced production.

Charles comments: “It was an honour to be asked by the BFC to accompany them on a trip of this nature, and based on my experience from recent trips to LA, I knew the seminars would be very well received.  In addition to ensuring that US producers understand the workings of the TV tax credit, it is also vital that these companies (many of which have not produced in the UK for decades) are made aware that the UK provides a flexible, user-friendly production environment.

These events were planned to give the US TV community all the information that they might need in order to take advantage of the tax credit and bring their productions to the UK.”

Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of the British Film Commission and Film London comments: “The BFC events in LA and NY were a crucial part of our strategy to promote the new tax relief internationally. The new incentive is fantastic news for the UK and from the hugely positive reaction we had in the US, I hope we will be welcoming new productions to our shores very soon. Having Charles at the event to convey some of the intricacies of the tax relief, was a great asset, especially as he has been involved in shaping the tax relief since its inception.”
