Niche media and technology law firm, Wiggin, is partnering with Worth Retail to provide legal support to the winners of the Worth Foundation retail entrepreneurs’ competition. Worth Retail is a consultancy specialising in delivering and managing direct retail solutions for consumer brands. Worth Retail has teamed up with Seedrs, the UK’s leading crowd funding experts, to invest £300,000 in the three winning businesses.

Wiggin will be providing a range of legal services to the winners, tailored to their individual needs.

Wiggin Head of Technology Shaun Lowde commented: “We are finding that the retail sector is one that is ripe for innovation, it’s a dynamic and fast moving area and so we’re excited to see what ideas this competition uncovers. We work with a range of accelerator programmes and startup hubs, such as Microsoft Ventures Accelerator and BBC Worldwide Labs and so we know that there is a real buzz around tech innovation across the board, but particularly in retail.

“However, what we’ve also found is that though opportunities for success are there for the taking, young businesses are often not preparing themselves properly for what comes next. Issues around preparation for investment, securing and protecting intellectual property, negotiating sound commercial contracts, setting up solid employee arrangements all need to be considered early.

“We know that it will be a really exciting time for the winners and we can’t wait to get stuck in!”

Alex Johns, Worth Retail, comments: “There is so much happening in the retail sector at the moment and so there’s no telling what the competition will reveal but we can be certain that whoever the winners are, their ideas could potentially be game-changing. In order to help them make the most of this opportunity, it’s crucial that we have the right partners working with us and so we’re really pleased welcome Wiggin on-board.”
