Insights Ukie gives evidence on behalf of video games industry to Parliamentary Select Committee for Business, Innovation and Skills.

BIS is currently conducting an inquiry into the digital economy.  Accordingly, Ukie gave evidence to the Select Committee and made the case for video games to Parliament.

Ukie CEO Jo Twist set out the conclusions of Ukie’s “Blueprint for Growth”, which stated that the next five years are crucial for games industry growth in the UK and that the sector is already world-class, but it can truly be a world-beater and boost exports, jobs and growth across the country with the right support.

Evidence to the Committee included:

  • the need for accurate data to capture the growth of the industry;
  • the need for new public investment for games;
  • giving a clearer mandate to support games in games cluster LEPs;
  • ensuring the Apprenticeship Levy is flexible enough for the games industry;
  • talent needs, such as investing in creative computing teaching and avoiding the additional Immigration Skills Charge;
  • extending Video Games Tax Relief; and
  • concerns about the Digital Single Market proposals.
