The Gambling Commission has agreed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Portuguese gambling regulator Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SIRJ).

The MoU is a “mutual collaboration plan” intended to ensure that online gambling is conducted in a fair and open way, to avoid excessive and unregulated gambling, to prevent gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, as well as to protect vulnerable people from addiction or exploitation.

Nick Tofiluk, The Gambling Commission’s Director of regulation, said: “We are pleased to announce this bilateral agreement with the SIRJ as part of our continuing co-operation.  Working together with other international regulators is essential to effective gambling regulation and MoUs are a useful way of formalising and streamlining the procedures for information sharing as an aid to efficient and effective collaboration”.  To read SIRJ’s press release in full, click here.  To read the Gambling Commission’s press release in full, click here.
