The Gambling Commission has agreed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Portuguese gambling regulator Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SIRJ).
The MoU is a “mutual collaboration plan” intended to ensure that online gambling is conducted in a fair and open way, to avoid excessive and unregulated gambling, to prevent gambling from being a source of crime and disorder, as well as to protect vulnerable people from addiction or exploitation.
Nick Tofiluk, The Gambling Commission’s Director of regulation, said: “We are pleased to announce this bilateral agreement with the SIRJ as part of our continuing co-operation. Working together with other international regulators is essential to effective gambling regulation and MoUs are a useful way of formalising and streamlining the procedures for information sharing as an aid to efficient and effective collaboration”.
