Ofcom has published Regulations that allow certain devices to operate in the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands on a licence-exempt basis.

Ofcom has published two sets of Regulations: the Wireless Telegraphy (Mobile Satellite System Equipment) (Exemption) Regulations 2016; and the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) (No.2) Regulations 2016.

The Regulations enable the use of “user terminals”, i.e. mobile and satellite phones, for example, on a licence-exempt basis within the 2 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 3.4 GHz bands. To access Ofcom’s statement and the Regulations, click here.
