HomeInsightsOfcom publishes update to its mobile data strategy.

Ofcom says that the document is an update to its long-term strategy for addressing the increasing use of data by mobile devices, such as smartphones, tablets and laptops.  Spectrum plays a key role in enabling future mobile data growth, Ofcom says, reminding readers that Ofcom’s role is to secure the optimal use of spectrum to benefit citizens and consumers and make communications work for everyone.

Ofcom’s mobile data strategy was first set out in May 2014.  Because radio communications is a fast-moving industry, Ofcom updates stakeholders from time-to-time on any changes in priorities.

Since 2014, technological and international developments, including developments in 5G technology, have meant that some adjustments are necessary to ensure the UK is at the forefront of mobile technology.

Ofcom’s new document is an update to the 2014 strategy, rather than a consultation.  However, if stakeholders wish to provide evidence, or comment on any aspect of it, they can do so by emailing mds@ofcom.org.uk.  To access the updated strategy document, click here.
