Ofcom has published revised guidance for television and radio licensees on how they should meet their obligations to promote equal employment opportunities.

The guidance forms part of Ofcom’s work to help industry ensure that talented women and men of all ages and backgrounds, and from every section of society, have the opportunity to contribute and thrive in television and radio.

The guidance sets out how licensees should achieve their obligations to promote equal opportunities. It recommends that broadcasters should:

  • have in place a written equal opportunities policy statement;
  • communicate their policy statement to their employees, and embed diversity within their organisation from the top down;
  • collect statistics to monitor the make-up of their employees;
  • set diversity targets; and
  • ensure fair recruitment practices.
