HomeInsightsOfcom publishes proposals on enabling companies to build “full-fibre” broadband networks using BT’s existing poles and ducts

Ofcom has published initial plans on how to make it easier for companies to build ultrafast, “full-fibre” broadband networks directly to UK homes and offices using BT’s existing telegraph poles and “ducts”, i.e. the small, underground tunnels that carry telecoms cables.

Ofcom is consulting on the plans and is requesting responses by 31 January 2017.

Ofcom has also published final guidance on how Ofcom expects to handle disputes under the Communications (Access to Infrastructure) Regulations 2016. These Regulations, which came into effect on 31 July 2016, are designed to reduce the cost of deploying high-speed broadband networks, by sharing access to infrastructure across different sectors.
