HomeInsightsOfcom consults on proposed updates to its Broadcast TV Technical Codes.

The Codes set technical standards for digital terrestrial TV (DTT), also known as Freeview.  They specify the types of signal that should be used by broadcasters and set minimum technical standards for the “multiplexes” that broadcast digital TV services.

The Broadcast TV Technical Codes were last updated in 2009.  Since then, the UK has switched completely to digital broadcasting and 14 new HD channels and four new digital TV multiplexes have launched on DTT.

Ofcom is therefore reviewing the requirements of the Broadcast TV Technical Codes to ensure regulation remains appropriate and results in the best service for viewers.  The consultation is open until 3 June 2016.  To access the consultation documentation, click here.
