HomeInsightsInternational online poker liquidity sharing in Spain and France now in effect

On 16 January 2018, the first cross-border online poker liquidity sharing agreement between European jurisdictions entered into effect. Following in France’s footsteps, Spain published the necessary Resolution in the Spanish Official Gazette on Monday (15 January 2018) to allow liquidity sharing between licensed online poker operators.

The Stars Group looks likely to be the first operator to offer tournaments involving users from multiple jurisdictions after already being issued a cross border licence from the French regulator ARJEL.

It follows last year’s signing of a cross-border agreement between the French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish regulatory authorities to allow liquidity sharing between licensed online poker operators. The regulators in Italy and Portugal still need to take the necessary steps to enable implementation at a national level.
