HomeInsightsInternational Artist Organisation sends letter to European Commission saying safe harbour reform must benefit artists as well as labels.

Umbrella organisation IAO (International Artist Organisation) has sent a statement on “Artists and the Value Gap” to the European Commission warning that the safe harbour reform must benefit both artists and labels.

The letter calls for more transparency in deals between rights holders and online platforms such as YouTube and contrasts labels’ demands from YouTube with artists’ demands from labels, following a recent request from industry body, IFPI, for artists’ support as it campaigns for safe harbour reform in Europe.

The IAO letter outlining its concerns has been sent to senior European Commission politicians, including President, Jean-Claude Juncker, Vice President of the digital single market, Andrus Ansip, and digital economy and society commissioner Günther Oettinger.  To read the letter in full, click here.
