In June 2018, the Government launched a consultation outlining proposals for the Centre for Data Ethics and Innovation. The consultation outlined the Government’s proposals for the Centre and sought views on the way in which it will operate and its priority areas of work. The consultation ran for 12 weeks and closed on 5 September 2018.

The Government received 104 responses from a wide range of respondents. In addition to these written responses, it received feedback through a series of roundtable discussions.

The Government says that all suggestions and comments have been carefully reviewed and assessed by the Government as part of its response. The response focuses primarily on clarifying the Centre’s existing functions and strengthening its reporting and recommendation functions. The Government has also set out where it expects the Centre to provide further clarity going forward and the mechanisms through which it should do this.
