HomeInsightsEuropean Commission publishes final Assessment List for Trustworthy AI (ALTAI)

The ALTAI has been published by the Commission’s High-Level Expert Group on AI (AI HLEG). The ALTAI is a check list for business and organisations to self-assess the trustworthiness of their AI systems under development.

The concept of Trustworthy AI, introduced by the AI HLEG through the Ethics Guidelines on Trustworthy AI, is based on seven key requirements:

  • human agency and oversight;
  • technical robustness and safety;
  • privacy and data governance;
  • transparency;
  • diversity, non-discrimination and fairness;
  • environmental and societal well-being; and

The Commission says that the ALTAI is the first instrument that translates AI principles into an accessible and dynamic checklist that developers and users of AI can use. The aim of the ALTAI is to help to ensure that users benefit from AI without being exposed to unnecessary risks.

The ALTAI has been revised following a pilot process that involved more than 350 stakeholders. The ALTAI is available as a word document and as an online tool. To access the ALTAI, click here.
