HomeInsightsEU reform: Article 29 Data Protection Working Party consults on priorities for the new General Data Protection Regulation.

As reported in the Information Commissioner’s Office September e-newsletter, the Article 29 Data Protection Working Party (WP29), the EU advisory body composed of representatives of national data protection authorities and the European Data Protection Supervisor, has held its first stakeholder workshop to discuss what it sees as the priorities for the GDPR. The WP29 has been considering the new data portability right, the use of privacy impact assessments, the use of certification and codes of conduct and the role of the data protection officer.  The meeting is the first step towards the WP29 becoming the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) by May 2018.  Another workshop is planned for early 2017.

The WP29 is also interested in hearing from stakeholders, particularly industry bodies, who were unable to attend this session. Views on the priorities mentioned above can be sent by email at PresidenceG29@cnil.fr. To access the ICO e-newsletter, click here.
