The corrigendum amends some of the key dates applicable to the Regulation.

The Regulation, which will allow consumers to access paid for online content when visiting another country within the EU, was published in the Official Journal on 30 June 2017 and entered into force 20 days following publication. It will not enter into effect, however, until 2018.

The corrigendum amends:

  • Article 9(2) by replacing “By 21 May 2018” with “By 2 June 2018”, so that the deadline by which a provider of an online content service provided against payment of money must verify the Member State of residence of subscribers who have signed up for the provision of an online content service is now 2 June 2018;
  • Article 10 by replacing “By 21 March 2021” with “By 2 April 2021”, so that the deadline by which the Commission must assess and report on the application of the Regulation in the light of legal, technological and economic developments, is now 2 April 2021; and
  • Article 11(2) by replacing “It shall apply from 20 March 2018” with “It shall apply from 1 April 2018” so that the Regulation now comes into effect on 1 April 2018.
