Data Privacy
Personal data is recognised as carrying real value to businesses and the protection of personal data has assumed real importance in the minds of consumers and employees across industry sectors.
Our Data Privacy group is acutely aware of the value not only of data itself but also of being perceived as a responsible custodian of that data. We know how to help businesses build and maintain that reputation and we know how to provide the best possible advice to help them avoid the legal, commercial and financial risks to which they are constantly exposed.
The group is led by partner Jason Chess and solicitor Phil Gorski.
We specialise in:
- Data Audits: a key component in enabling a business to assess how to optimise data handling and compliance.
- Compliance assessments: a rigorous evaluation of the extent to which a business is complying with the obligations that relate to the data it holds and what must be done to achieve compliance. Assessments are vital but we recognise they can only work with one eye always on the commercial realities of the situation.
- Breach management: the way in which a data breach is handled can have an enormous positive or negative influence on its eventual consequences. We are experts in talking to the regulator as well as helping manage immediate relations with customers themselves.
- Education: we provide training such as seminars to help both management and employees understand the importance of data privacy throughout the business. Often data privacy issues are seen as irrelevant to more obvious commercial concerns. We believe everyone from board level down should understand their importance.
