David is a media finance specialist and advises financiers, producers and distributors on film, television and video game productions and financings. He has extensive experience in structuring complex international film financings (single picture, slate and library financings) and advises clients on all production and financing documents including loan, security, completion guarantee, inter-creditor and distribution agreements.
In the past year David has acted for Bank of Ireland on a number of production financings, including the Lord Attenborough film "Closing the Ring" (starring Shirley MacLaine and Mischa Barton) and Roger Spottiswoode's "The Children of Huang Shi" (a German, Chinese and Australian co-production), Ingenious Media plc on various film and video game financings and Thema Production on its investments in various films including "Goodbye Bafana", a film by two time Oscar winner Bille August based on the memoirs of Nelson Mandela's prison guard.
David is rated in Legal 500 and Chambers. Chambers state:
"Clients regard him as “an excellent relationship lawyer who takes the time to figure out how we operate and keeps within that.” He is particularly endorsed for his financing skills."
David qualified at Stephenson Harwood in 1996 and joined the film group at Reed Smith (then Richards Butler) in 2000. He joined Bird & Bird as a partner in 2005.
